Seawalls and bulkheads (another name for seawalls) are used to provide a barrier between the water and property you want to protect. They can be created with stone, treated timber, or a corrugated plastic material designed for that purpose. They are typically used to protect the land from erosion due the effect of the tide. The future sea level in Beaufort County is uncertain but there is concern that global warming may raise the sea level in the years ahead.
